Narrative of Accident On July 8, 1999, 3 year old special education student being taken home from summer program was saved from almost certain injury by a quick thinking ambulance driver who radioed police that he was following a school bus that was weaving over the double yellow lines and onto the shoulder, barely missing telephone poles.  The police pulled the driver over and arrested him for DWI. He had a seltzer bottle filled with ZIMA and was tested as having a blood alcohol level of .199%, almost double the legal limit.  The driver admitted to having five alcoholic beverages before and during his drive to and from the school.  The student arrived home two hours late. His parents were lied to by the company on three separate occasions as to the whereabouts of the their three year old handicapped child.  The company is We Transport, Inc. and are one of the largest child transporters in the County of Nassau. After the incident, it was learned that the driver was an alcoholic and had been sent home on at least one other occasion because he had arrived to work drunk.

Narrative of Accident I complained about the driver.  She was dropping the children off and speeding off before letting them clear the bus.  She was backing the bus up onto people's front lawns, she did not know how to use the signals and controls in the bus( i.e. flashing lights or stop sign).  She played hard rap music in the bus with bad language and violent messages in it.  I complained to the school district twice about the above things.  The driver backed the bus into me and knocked me over a 4 foot high fence while I was 6 months pregnant. I delivered a premature baby and ruptured spinal discs requiring spinal surgery.  I  am fully disabled  now.

Narrative of Accident I visited my grandson's grave today, placed some flowers there and thought how big and handsome he would be today. He would be 12 yrs old now But on a beautiful fall day on November 9th, 1995, my precious 5 year old grandson, Joshua, was run over and killed by his school bus....the very thing that was supposed to bring happy memories of safely taking him to kindergarten and bringing him home again to his mom and dad and little sister.   Instead, right in front of his very house, on a back rural county road, it brought him horror and a pain and void which has never left our hearts to this day.
There were several kids who got off at his stop, but he was the only one who lived on the left side of the road.  The driver was a substitute, and wasn’t aware of this.  He thought all the kids went to the right side of the road and never even knew he had hit Joshua, until the cars which had stopped flagged him down. Josh was killed instantly, as his mom (my daughter) ran to his side, with his 3 yr old sister at her side, and a bus load of hysterical children witnessing the whole thing.
After the shock of the situation began to sink in, I had to believe something had to come out of this....since that time, the school dstrict had placed swing gates on all their buses (Thank God!)
If I can be of help to expedite this equipment all over the nation....please call on me!
