Narrative of Accident My six year old son was run over by both the front and the rear tires of the school bus.  There was a substitute driver that day who did not count the number of heads and didn't think my son was going to cross.  He looked over his shoulder and in the rear-view mirror, but not in the front mirror.  He proceeded forward and ran over my son, never hearing or seeing anyone yelling for him to stop.  My son was killed instantly.  We NEED swinging gates installed on the front of buses!

Narrative of Accident

My son is 6 and 1/2 years old in the second grade. On the first day of school I went to the school office to get his bus # and bus stop location. Thanks to the unspecific and incorrect information provided by the transportation department, I was waiting for my son at the wrong location!  When I finally found him, he was scared, screaming, and crying.  The woman I spoke to at transportation could not care less, she was pretty snotty, so I asked to speak to someone else.  He was nice and helped to improve the situation.

My case: parents should have ample opportunity to speak directly with the bus driver in order to find out specific information regarding stop locations. When it comes to child safety, there is no room for error and working out the "bugs" of a school bus route.  The bus drivers are not to blame. I believe it is the lack of  concern and organization on the part of transportation that causes all of the problems. If the bus driver had dropped my son off anywhere else, who knows what may have happened to him!

Narrative of Accident My 10-year-old daughter told me that her bus driver "had to stop hard" for some reason. She (and others) slid from their seats into the floor. She bumped her head (and got a knot) "on something hard", and cut/bruised her back from sliding against a bar (a brace of some sort) on the side wall of the bus. I haven't heard a single word from any other parent, so I don't know the extent of any other injuries.
