| Narrative
of Accident |
Four passengers died
in the accident, including my 14 year old son. I was also on the bus
but survived the accident. I believe seat belts would have made a
difference. I am pushing the state to require seat belts on school
buses, as there is currently a bill before the transportation
committee in support of school bus restraints. |

| Narrative
of Accident |
May 31, 2001. 10 children and 1
adult driver were involved in an accident in which a semi truck ran a
stop sign on an exit ramp and hit the bus full speed (approximately 70
miles per hour). The impact of the hit knocked the box frame of
the bus off of the frame (wheels). As the bus rolled, it came to
rest on its driver side. Three students were partially ejected
from the bus. Two have died, one is in critical condition, and
the rest are injured.

of Accident |
Due to extremely icy road conditions (bus
driver only traveling at 5 mph), bus slid off road and hit tree.
One boy hit the side window and required several stitches in his nose.
No other physical injuries reported, although others were thrust
forward. Students had to be evacuated from rear emergency exit.
Luckily police car had been directly behind the bus at time of
accident.
