SCHOOL BUS CRASH REPORTS 2007

School Bus Accident Sends 10 People to Hospital
February 5, 2007

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. - A small school bus was involved in a three-vehicle accident Monday, leaving nine children and one adult injured.

Nine children, ages 5 to 7, were in the bus from the Children's Learning Center and were injured in the accident, which happened about 9 a.m. An 18-year-old woman, who was driving a car, was flown to a hospital, said Ronda Montgomery, spokeswoman for the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

Montgomery said the bus was eastbound when the 34-year-old driver reached down to pick up something, and the bus struck a westbound car. That car spun around and ended up in a fence. The driver, a 21-year-old Oak Grove woman, was not injured, Montgomery said.

The bus then continued in the westbound lanes and struck the 18-year-old woman's car head-on. The bus overturned, and the woman's car came to a stop nearby. Emergency workers extricated the 18-year-old driver.

"All the children were taken to area hospitals," Montgomery said. "Some had obvious injuries, including one who was complaining of a neck injury."

Further injury information was unavailable.
