SCHOOL BUS CRASH REPORTS 2007

50 Hurt in School Bus Crash
23 April, 2007

Fifty people have been injured in a bus accident in Midrand, ER24 paramedics said.

Spokesman Werner Vermaak said the school bus carrying teachers and pupils overturned on the corners of Kyalami and Main drives around 3.20pm yesterday.

It is believed that the driver lost control of the bus, causing it to overturn.

Fifty people were treated at the scene and then taken to Tembisa clinic. No one was seriously injured.

Vermaak said there were teachers, primary and secondary school pupils on the bus.

They were returning from KwaZulu-Natal after a school trip and were apparently on their way back to a technical school in Atteridgeville, Pretoria.

Vermaak said further details were not yet available.

"At this stage paramedics could not establish the exact school name or obtain further details regarding the incident.

"Some of the pupils families have not been informed yet," he said.
