KINGSTON – A school bus carrying 10 Silver Lake High School students was struck by a Jeep on Pembroke Street in Kingston Thursday morning. Seven 14-15-year-old students and the bus and Jeep drivers were taken by ambulances to Jordan Hospital in Plymouth for treatment.

Hospital spokesman John Looney said mid-morning that all seven students and the bus driver were expected to be treated and released. He said the driver of the Jeep was treated and transferred to another hospital. The Jeep driver, who was the lone occupant, struck the windshield.

The students’ injuries were described as minor and included bloody noses. An official on the scene said the students were shaken up and were being sent to the hospital for precautionary reasons.

According to Kingston Police, the 1999 Jeep Cherokee exited Joseph Street to go southbound on Pembroke Street (Route 27), and then swerved into oncoming traffic. The Jeep hit First Student school bus number 55.

Traffic was delayed for about one hour while safety officials dealt with the situation. The scene was cleared by 8:15 a.m.
