School Bus Accident Sends Seven
Students to Hospital

KINGSTON – A school bus carrying 10
Silver Lake High School students was struck by a Jeep on Pembroke Street
in Kingston Thursday morning. Seven 14-15-year-old students and the bus
and Jeep drivers were taken by ambulances to Jordan Hospital in Plymouth
for treatment.
Hospital spokesman John Looney said
mid-morning that all seven students and the bus driver were expected to
be treated and released. He said the driver of the Jeep was treated and
transferred to another hospital. The Jeep driver, who was the lone
occupant, struck the windshield.
The students’ injuries were described as
minor and included bloody noses. An official on the scene said the
students were shaken up and were being sent to the hospital for
precautionary reasons.
According to Kingston Police, the 1999
Jeep Cherokee exited Joseph Street to go southbound on Pembroke Street
(Route 27), and then swerved into oncoming traffic. The Jeep hit First
Student school bus number 55.
Kingston Police and Fire responded at
7:09 a.m. Kingston Fire arrived with two ambulances. Pembroke, Duxbury
and Plymouth fire departments each responded with one ambulance. The
Halifax Fire Department provided Kingston coverage.
Traffic was delayed for about one hour
while safety officials dealt with the situation. The scene was cleared
by 8:15 a.m.
Silver Lake High School contacted all
parents and set up a recording to inform callers about the accident.
