SCHOOL BUS CRASH REPORTS 2007

Five Year-Old Boy Was Hit by a School Bus
March 9, 2007

A five year-old boy was hit by a school bus just before 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 9. Witnesses say the bus driver paused for a moment, then drove away.

The accident happened in the 1200 block of Margaret in South Memphis.

Parents are outraged by the actions of the school bus driver, who witnesses say drove away after the accident. Police tell EYEWITNESS NEWS EVERYWHERE that the driver claims she did not know she had hit five year-old Dominique Martin.

Kids who had gotten off the bus just before the accident say they ran to help the little boy, while neighbors called 911.

Martin was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, where he had to undergo surgery. Investigators say his torso was run over and he is suffering from internal injuries. He is listed in critical condition.

The bus driver was found at Laidlaw headquarters by police and brought back to the scene of the accident to question her. Police are still investigating, but say it appears she did violate Laidlaw policies.

No charges have been filed yet. Investigators want to check her driving record and also check to see if she has a criminal record.
