SCHOOL BUS CRASH
REPORTS 2007
School Bus Driver Injured in
Accident
February 11, 2007
Those involved in a school bus
accident at Northern Nash High School on Friday appeared to have
received only minor injuries, though details are still being sorted
out, authorities said.
Sgt. Eddie Thomas of the N.C. Highway
Patrol said a bus carrying 36 children turned into the side of a
midsize sedan traveling west on Green Hills Road when the car
attempted to pass the bus on the right.
Thomas said the bus moved left into
the median to make a wide right turn, effectively giving up its
lane.
The car proceeded to drive by the bus
on its right, and was hit on the driver's side when the bus tried to
make its turn.
Thomas said the bus driver broke her
hand in the accident, and two students called their parents to be
picked up from school complaining of neck and back pains. However,
Thomas said he was told by an assistant principal at the school that
no students received visible injuries.
Thomas said the driver of the vehicle
was not on the scene when he arrived, and he did not know how many
passengers were in the car. He was unaware of any injuries to those
in the car.
An accident report for the crash has
not been completed, and Thomas said the matter is still under
investigation with charges pending.
