Car-Bus Crash Injures Boy, Slows Route
176 Traffic
April 21, 2007
CRYSTAL LAKE – A two-vehicle crash
involving a Crystal Lake school district bus sent a Crystal Lake boy to
the hospital and slowed traffic on Route 176 Friday morning.
A red 1990 Toyota Corolla traveling east
on Route 176, near Hickory Drive, rear-ended a stopped school bus with
26 passengers about 6:45 a.m., said Sgt. Tom Coutré of the Crystal Lake
Police Department.
The front of the Toyota was lodged
underneath the school bus and firefighters had to free the 16-year-old
driver from the vehicle. He was transported to Woodstock Memorial
Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, Coutré
said. He was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
School bus driver Ronald Jones, 61, of
Crystal Lake, was not hospitalized. None of the Crystal Lake Central
High School students appeared to be injured.
Another school bus arrived about 7:30
a.m. to transport students to school. Eastbound traffic on Route 176 was
restricted because of the accident, but returned to normal about 8 a.m.
The 16-year-old driver was cited for not
wearing a seat belt and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident,
police said.
