SCHOOL BUS CRASH
REPORTS 2007
Child Hit At Bus Stop OK; Driver
Charged
March 13, 2007
A woman is facing charges of failing
to stop for a school bus after she hit a student in the Seminole
community off U.S. 421 between Lillington and Sanford Monday.
The woman, Sarah Cockerman, is
charged with reckless driving and failing to stop for a stopped
school bus. She told officers on the scene she was talking on a cell
phone at the time of the accident and did not see the bus.
The boy, a ninth-grader at Western
Harnett High School, is recovering from minor injuries. He was hit
as he crossed the highway. The bus had its stop arm out and was
completely stopped.
The child was taken to Central
Carolina Hospital where he underwent X-rays before being released.
"It is only bumps and bruises, with
not broken bones," Western Harnett High Principal Terry Hinson said.
"We are certainly relieved it wasn't worse than it was."
Mr. Hinson said the child's name
could not be released because of confidentiality rules.
