February 26, 2007
Bus Was Returning From Denver Choir
Performance
A Poudre School District bus carrying
Poudre High School choir members from a performance and reception in
Denver rolled early this morning, sending six students and one teacher
to the hospital.
Five students and the teacher have been
released from the hospital, but one female student remains at Medical
Center of the Rockies stable condition after undergoing surgery this
morning. PSD is not releasing her name.
The bus, which was carrying 26 students,
was northbound on Interstate 25 north of the Windsor exit shortly after
12:30 a.m. when it veered into the center median, back onto the road,
again into the median and rolled onto its left side as it came back onto
the road, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Gilbert Mares said.
The six students and one teacher were
taken to Medical Center of the Rockies, and the five students and
teacher were released by 4:30 a.m. The driver was also taken to MCR for
tests and observation and was released.
The remaining students were taken to
Poudre High School, where they were released to their parents.
The students were members of the Poudre
High School Choir that performed Sunday in Denver at Boettcher Concert
Hall and then attended a reception following their performance.
Fifty-two students are in the choir and were riding in two buses.
The second bus was not involved in the
accident.
No citations have been issued in the
crash, CSP's Mares said.
"That's pending," he said.
PSD spokeswoman Ellen Laubhan said she
was not sure what caused the accident.
"It will be awhile before we have a
traffic report," Laubhan said.
