SCHOOL BUS CRASH
REPORTS 2007
Brainerd, Minn. / Four Students
Hurt in School Bus Accident
March 3, 2007
A school bus accident in Brainerd
injured at least four elementary students Wednesday.
The bus collided with a pickup at an
intersection about 11 a.m. as the bus was taking students from
Lowell Elementary School to an early release program for religious
instruction.
Brainerd School District Assistant
Superintendent Steve Razidlo said at least four students were taken
to St. Joseph's Medical Center for evaluation. Their conditions were
not released.
Susan Mack, a registered nurse,
stopped to help. She said she saw children with injuries to the
neck, head and nose. "There was a lot of crying," Mack said of the
scene.
A school official estimated 30
students were on the bus at the time of the accident. Children who
weren't hurt were placed on another bus and returned to Lowell
Elementary.
Neither the bus driver nor the pickup
driver was injured.
Bus driver Lenny Lehman said he was
most concerned about the students. "That's my greatest worry, the
kids on the bus," Lehman said.
State troopers were investigating the
accident.
