students were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor
injuries Monday morning after their bus was struck by a
pickup truck in the city's Black Rock section. |

The bus was on the way to St. Ann's
School on Brewster Street about 7:30 a.m. when the truck failed to
stop at Ellsworth Street and Crowther Avenue, and hit the side of
the bus, according to a report from Laidlaw Transit and the city's
school transportation officials.
The driver of the pickup ran away,
and officers were still looking for him Monday evening, Lt. James
Viadero, police spokesman, said.
Mike Carter, manager at Laidlaw
Transit, which provides buses for the city's public and parochial
schools, said the truck was unregistered and had a marker plate that
did not belong on it.
The bus driver, Lynell Bohannon, was
taken along with two students to St. Vincent's Medical Center for
treatment of injuries that did not appear serious, Carter said.
One of the students, 8 years old,
complained of stomach pain, while the other, 10, complained of knee
pain, officials said.
The bus driver and the students were
released after treatment, officials said.
