SCHOOL BUS CRASH REPORTS 2007

School Bus Crash Driver Arrested, Tottenham, England
7 February 2007

THE driver of a minibus carrying special needs children tested positive for alcohol after he was in collision with a coach.

The minibus had been taking three eight and nine-year-olds to The Bridge School, which caters for children and teenagers with autism and severe learning difficulties.

It is thought that the eight-seater H&B Group Travel minibus had been heading to the school's new primary department on the site of Hungerford Primary School in Hungerford Road, Holloway.

It had been on Haringey Council business when it was in collision with the empty coach in Boreham Road, Tottenham, around 8.30am on Monday.

The 60-year-old man driving the minibus tested positive in a police breathalyser test.

He was arrested and bailed to return to a police station on Wednesday, March 28.

A Haringey Council spokesman said: "They were no serious injuries, more a bit of whiplash. They were all taken with an escort to North Middlesex Hospital but released after a couple of hours."

The stationary Haringey Council coach had been waiting to take children to a care centre. Its driver had been waiting beside the vehicle and was uninjured.

An H&B company worker, who did not want to be named, confirmed the accident had involved a minibus belonging to the Wood Green-based company.

She said: "There was an accident. The driver was not injured but shaken up. As far as I'm aware the driver is at home. We left it that he would contact us. We haven't heard from the police."

Asked how the accident occurred, she replied: "Our vehicle was travelling along the road. I don't know what the other one was doing there. We're still making inquires. Until we've made those inquires it's not for me to say anything."

H&B provides shuttle services for events such as the Miss World Contest, the MTV and MOBO music awards.

Other clients include Haringey Council, Age Concern and the Royal British Legion and, its website says, "numerous disabled institutions".
