School Bus Driver Cited in Stark
Crash
March 14, 2007
NIMISHILLEN TWP.
A Louisville school bus driver was
cited for failure to control this morning after he accidentally
drove off a road and into a ditch, hitting a culvert, the Ohio State
Highway Patrol said.
One student was transported to an
area hospital as a precaution, but there were no serious injuries,
the patrol and school district said.
Bus driver Larry E. Carlson, 60, of
Louisville, turned around to check on the children and the right
front tire went off the road and then the bus fell into the ditch,
the patrol said. The bus came to rest at a 45-degree angle.
The bus was carrying 47 students in
kindergarten through fifth grade.
The accident occurred at 8:15 a.m. on
Hahn Street Northeast, just west of state Route 44.
"Everybody was pretty shaken up,''
Louisville Superintendent Clyde Lepley said. "It was quite a
situation.''
The one student who was taken to the
hospital was complaining of a headache, he said.
Carlson will not immediately return
to driving for the district, Lepley said. As required by Ohio law,
he was tested for drugs and alcohol, and the district will monitor
those results, he said.
"He's been a solid driver for us and
we've not had any problems with him,'' Lepley said.
