School Bus Ran Red Light, Cops Say; 6
Kids Injured
March 22, 2007
BOLINGBROOK -- A van heading south on
Illinois Highway 53 in Bolingbrook struck a school bus full of students
Wednesday afternoon, sending six children to local hospitals with bumps
and bruises, police said.
The accident happened about 1:44 p.m. as
a 2006 blue Ford E-250 van was trying to make a left turn onto
Interstate Highway 55, but crashed into the bus.
Bolingbrook Police Lt. Chris Prochut said
the bus driver, George R. Hoff, was cited for disobeying a red light.
He said the van struck the middle of the
bus on the driver's side. Neither driver was hurt and the accident site
was cleared by mid-afternoon.
All of the children--students at Valley
View Public School District 365U--were taken to Edward Hospital in
Naperville. None was seriously hurt, Prochut said.
The accident remains under investigation,
he said.
