5 Students, 2 Adults to Hospital
After School Bus Rolls Onto Car

| A school bus with students on board
rolled over and crushed a car early Wednesday in the north Metro. The accident happened around 6:30
a.m. at County Road 58 and Cedar Drive near the Andover-Oak Grove
border.

Anoka County dispatchers tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that it was Bus 19
from the St. Francis School District that was involved in the
crash.
Five students and two female adults were taken to area hospitals.
All of the students and one of the adults were taken to Mercy
Hospital in Coon Rapids. The other adult was taken to Unity Hospital
in Fridley.
The two adults were the driver of the bus and the driver of the car.
Most of the 20 students on the bus
had to escape the bus through the emergency doors.
One parent told 5 EYEWTNESS NEWS Wednesday morning that his children
were involved in another school bus crash on the same route just
five years ago.

Student on Bus Describes the
Accident
A student who was riding on the
school bus that crashed in Andover early Wednesday morning told 5
EYEWITNESS NEWS what happened:
"All I know is we were starting to turn and I felt the bus swerve,"
Tanya Koehler said. "…All of a sudden I felt the bus tip over and I
hit my head. Then, a person across from me tumbled on top of me."
The student also said this wasn’t the first school bus accident she
has been involved in. She said she was involved in a school bus
accident five years ago when she was in fourth grade.

That Happened Five Years Ago
This is not the first accident that a
school bus has had in Andover in recent years. One parent told 5
EYEWTNESS NEWS Wednesday morning that his children were involved in
another school bus crash on the same route just five years ago.
"I am extremely irritated, this is the second time on the same route
that this has happened," said parent Joe Cich.
He said his two oldest children don’t want to ride on the bus
anymore because of the accident five years ago.
