Six Students Hospitalized After School
Bus Crash

(STNG) BOLINGBROOK Six middle school
students were taken to hospitals with minor injuries after an accident
involving a school bus and a van in southwest suburban Bolingbrook on
Wednesday afternoon.
About 1:44 p.m. Wednesday, Bolingbrook
police and fire units responded to an accident at the intersection of
Route 53 and I-55, according to a release from Bolingbrook police. A
2006 blue Ford E-250 van was southbound on Route 53 making a left turn
onto northbound I-55 when it struck a 2003 yellow International school
bus traveling northbound on Route 53, the release said.
The vehicles collided, causing damage to
the driver's side of the bus and front-end of the van. Six Valley View
Community Unit School District 365U students, ages 13-14 from
Bolingbrook, were aboard the school bus, and all were taken to Edward
Hospital in Naperville for treatment of minor injuries and precautionary
measures, the release said.
The driver of the school bus, George R.
Hoff, 46, of Joliet, was cited for disobeying a traffic control device
(red light), the release said. Neither Hoff nor the van driver, Steve F.
Depke, 53, of Chicago, were injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
