SCHOOL BUS CRASH REPORTS 2007

Ten-Year-Old Boy Saw Fellow Student Knocked Out in Bus Crash
April 11, 2007

BRAMPTON, Ont. (CP) - Ten-year-old Roland Ruzsinszki says his fellow students were thrown about and one was knocked unconscious as their school bus veered into a highway ditch after colliding with a tractor trailer.

The horrific accident Wednesday in Brampton, Ont., just northwest of Toronto, has left at least one student in critical condition and several others seriously injured.

Ruzsinszki was among the 27 Grade 4 students on the bus en route to a field trip and says he saw one student knocked unconscious while another was thrown from the seat to the floor.

The boy, who was discharged from a Brampton hospital after being examined by doctors, says people on the bus were crying and screaming and he's still scared following the crash.

Hospital officials say an eight-year-old girl had to be resuscitated after arriving at the hospital with "vital signs absent."

Despite earlier reports that the bus may have flipped over in the crash, police say the bus remained upright as it slid into the grassy median of the highway.
