SCHOOL BUS CRASH REPORTS 2007

Students, Driver Injured in School Bus Accident
April 24, 2007

NORTH FORT MYERS: Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office are saying that an accident involving a bus with children onboard has taken place.

Officials say 40 children were on bus 726 that was coming from Tropic Isles Elementary School when the bus was rear ended by a red pickup truck.

There are reports that five to seven students were taken to the hospital. Some of them were wearing neck braces and some were even put onto stretchers. But most of the complaints were minor.

"Most of the complaints from kids were about bumps and bruises - mostly fear," said a firefighter on the scene.

The accident happened at the intersection of Biscayne Drive and Pondella Road in North Fort Myers.

The children were loaded onto another bus which took them to their normal bus stops.

The teenage driver of the red truck was cited by deputies for careless driving.
