Morning Crash Involves School Bus
- Two Drivers Injured
January 29, 2007
A Metropolitan Mount Vernon School
Corporation bus was involved in a crash with two other vehicles
after its engine died on Indiana 62 at about 8:08 a.m. today, said
Indiana State Police. The crash happened east of Carson School Road
in the eastbound lanes of the highway.
Police said bus driver Arnold Sinnett,
83, of Mount Vernon, Ind., had just dropped off students at Marrs
Elementary School and was preparing to make a u-turn at a nearby
cross-over when the school bus began experiencing engine problems.
The engine died while the bus was still in the passing lane about 75
fee from the cross-over and Sinnett turned on his emergency flashers
to warn other drivers, according to state police.
However, moments later a Pontiac
Aztec driven by Ruby Oeth, 50, of Mount Vernon, collided with the
rear of the school bus. A vehicle driven by Michael Hellenberg, 51,
of Evansville, then struck the rear of Oeth's vehicle. Both vehicles
were totaled, police said.
Oeth and Hellenberg were taken to
Deaconess Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life
threatening. Sinnett was not injured.
