SCHOOL BUS CRASH REPORTS 2007

Dad Upset District Failed to Relate Bus Accident
April 4, 2007

A teen ran his car into a Venus school bus. VENUS - Some parents in the town of Venus are questioning the school district after their children came home complaining of injuries after a car ran into their school bus.

Parents said they are upset they never received a call informing them of the incident.

Kylie Beeler's father said she experienced a mild case of whiplash during the incident, which kept her home from school Wednesday.

While Beeler's bus driver was waiting to make a turn Tuesday, a high school student ran his car into the bus full of kids.

"I flew forward," Beeler said. "My neck popped twice; and whenever I went back, I hit my head on the back of the seat."

High school principal Robert White saw the whole thing happen.

"I think it was a zero," White said when asked to describe the seriousness of the accident based on a zero to ten scale.

White said he and a school nurse went onto the bus and none of the children reported injuries. He said some didn't even realize there had been an accident.

White said he didn't notify anyone about the incident "outside the transportation director.

"Really, I think it falls under the transportation director's policy," he said. "I just happened to be on duty out front and witnessed it."

Mr. Beeler said he would have never known of the accident had his daughter not informed him of her pains.

"I want the school to take initiative to call the parents when stuff like this happens," he said.
