SCHOOL BUS CRASH REPORTS 2007

3 Recovering From Bus Crash
June 1, 2007

Three people seriously injured in a school bus accident Wednesday in
Genesee County are recovering at the Erie County Medical Center.

A school bus from the LeRoy Central School District rear-ended a dump truck on Route 33 near Wortendyke Road in the town of Batavia Wednesday morning, according to New York State Police. Both vehicles were reportedly westbound on the roadway west of the city of Batavia at the time of the crash, troopers said.

Bus driver John Peck, 69, and two passengers on the bus — student Jeremy Perry, 18, and teacher Sue Lawrence, 31 — were transported to the Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight. All three were listed in stable condition Thursday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Fourteen members of the LeRoy school community, including Peck, Perry and Lawrence, were traveling to a veterinary clinic in Corfu for a field trip when the vehicles collided, according to school officials. Others on the bus were treated for minor injuries at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. The dump truck driver, 44-year-old Robert Tompkins, was not hurt.

Trooper Rebecca Gibbons said Thursday that accident is still under investigation.
