Outsourcing Measure
Goes to the Senate
June 3, 2007
Lawmakers concerned
about the growing trend of outsourcing passed a bill requiring
companies bidding for state contracts to disclose where the work
would be performed.
The bill, titled "An Act to Retain State Jobs," passed the state
House of Representatives in a 125-25 vote Friday. It is now pending
in the Senate.
"For
years, Connecticut's policy on outsourcing as been don't ask, don't
tell," said Jon Green, director of Connecticut Working Families, a
grassroots organization that advocated for the legislation. "The
broad, bipartisan support shown for this bill demonstrates that
legislators are finally listening; Connecticut residents don't want
to be spending state money to send jobs overseas."
