NATIONAL COALITION OF SCHOOL BUS SAFETY NEWS 2007
Keep School Buses off Interstates
February 21, 2007
I've read many letters concerning the
tragic school bus accident. I have a question that I have not yet seen
addressed. Why is a school bus traveling on an interstate highway at
speeds of 70 mph competing with speeding 18-wheelers?
I see where the trial lawyers are busy
lining up a gaggle of people to sue when it appears that there were no
defects that caused this tragic accident, and that's what it was.
Meanwhile, is there a moratorium on
keeping school buses with children off the interstate? That would be the
logical first step and also the fastest means to prevent future
occurrences of this nature.
The commission the governor has studying
it and the time it will take to implement any safety features is years
away. Meanwhile we can do something proactive today.
